Hyunhong CHOI is the director of the Technology & Data Intelligence (T&DI) Lab at Kyung Hee University. He currently serves as an assistant professor in the Department of Industrial and Management Systems Engineering, with joint appointments in the Big Data Analytics Graduate School and the Multidisciplinary Graduate School for Carbon Neutrality Consulting and Conflict Management. Prior to this, he was a research assistant professor in the Division of Public Policy at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Engineering Research at Seoul National University.
At the intersection of data science and social science, the T&DI Lab conducts research to address complex industrial and societal challenges. The lab focuses on "technology" as a catalyst for change, developing data-driven quantitative methodologies to provide evidence-based insights and strategies for both public sector governance and organizational decision-making.
In particular, the lab explores sustainable development—identifying key technological trends and opportunities in sectors like energy, environment, mobility, and ICT to devise strategic data-driven decision-making. Our research is designed to be highly applicable not only for corporations seeking competitive advantages but also for governments and public institutions aiming to formulate data-driven policies and regulatory strategies to solve critical societal problems.
The lab pursues interdisciplinary research combining theories and methodologies from various fields including engineering, management, economics, and public policy. It places emphasis on deriving deep policy implications through the synergistic utilization of diverse types of analytical data (patents, surveys, texts, geospatial data, etc.) and methodologies (machine learning, applied econometrics, optimization, etc.).
